Recovery Console and Safe Mode in Windows 8

I'll get right to the point. Windows 8 is dreadful if you need to do anything out of the norm. And, getting into Safe Mode in Windows 8 is incredibly nasty due to the mis-information on the web.

All over the web, people are telling you to re-boot, hold down shift and then hammer your F8 key like a pneumatic drill in order to get the Safe Mode Options Screen.

THIS IS NOT THE CASE. DO NOT BOTHER.

You will just get RSI or something and ruin your keyboard.

However, nowhere could I find anyone say anything different. Even Microsoft had a crazy 'fix' on their website which, if you couldn't get into the PC in the first place was simply useless. If I could have got that deep into the machine, I wouldn't have needed Safe Mode. DOH!

If you can get to the Windows Start Screen, then all you have to do is:

  1. Click on the little power icon on the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Hold down SHIFT
  3. Click RESTART

Done.... now your PC will do a mini-restart in recovery mode. At which point, you can change your settings to restart in safe mode and do all sorts of fixes. It is that simple. Why even Microsoft fail to seem to know this little trick is astounding but hey ho!

Thought that might help some people.
